Our world is broken. Our nation is broken. We are broken.
You can’t turn on the television or scroll through Facebook without seeing the devastation happening all over our world, our nation, our communities. It’s heartbreaking to see stories of violence, addiction, and disease. I tend to shy away from uncomfortable situations, so I have been trying to occupy my mind with good thoughts. I have been reading Scripture to soak up as much truth as I can. Yet today, again, my heart feels so heavy.
Bad things have happened around the world ever since Eve first disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden. Sin entered the world, and this is our truth. No matter how we try to change that, or fix what’s broken in this world, sin will still exist. Don’t get me wrong, we should absolutely do whatever is in our power to fight against sin, but we need to do so realizing we are not God. We cannot fix all the broken people because we ourselves are still broken.
Friends, there is HOPE. One day, God will “wipe away every tear from (our) eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore.” (Revelation 21:4) If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, there is hope. And there is action to take.
We need to pray. We need to pray for our broken world. We need to pray for our broken nation, our broken communities. We need to pray for all the people involved in violence, on both sides of that equation. We need to pray for the families dealing with addictions. We need to pray for healing from diseases. We need to repent for turning our backs on God. We need to pray for His guidance, His comfort, His peace. We need to pray for our children, who are being forced to grow up so much faster than we did. We need to pray for the future. We need to thank God for loving us so much He sent His only Son to die for our sins and to give us eternal life. We need to thank God for the HOPE we have as Christians, knowing that one day Jesus will come back and we will be made whole once again.
“And now, O Lord, for what do I wait?
My hope is in you.” Psalm 39:7
Brothers and sisters in Christ, we are under attack. The enemy seeks to divide us, and he has. The enemy seeks for us to turn our backs on God, and we have. The enemy wants us to believe the lies and not spread the truth. Let’s fight back. Let us fight back by uniting in prayer. Let us fight back by spreading love, not hate. Let us fight back by returning to God and seeking His guidance. Let us fight back by spreading the truth: God loves you, no matter who you are and no matter what you have done in your life. There is hope to be found, and that hope is in Jesus Christ alone.
In a world sinking in darkness, be the light.
