Every year, I make a ton of resolutions. I get caught up in the “new year, new me” hype and sometimes go overboard. This year? I have eleven resolutions written down! I think I may be able to achieve most, if not all, of them.
This is going to be a great year!
At dinner the other night, I asked my family for their thoughts on how 2017 would shape up for us. The past four years have been pretty eventful! In 2013, we found out we were expecting our third child. In 2014, we were hit with some pretty big pregnancy-related obstacles and welcomed our beautiful second daughter in July. For me, this year also marks the true beginning of my journey with Christ. In 2015, we thought we were moving. Then we decided to stay. And then my husband accepted a job in another state and started it in November. 2016 marks the year of the move. Stressful, chaotic, crazy.
2017 – my hope and prayer for this year is for it to be a rebuilding year. Strengthening our family, moving forward with my faith, and focusing on this new life in Ohio. We’ll see if God’s will for my life aligns with my hopes!
One of my biggest goals for 2017 is to focus on writing. I enjoy blogging, so I want to try and do that more often. I feel God challenging me to write on a bigger scale, and so I have my hand in that as well. Finding the balance can be difficult, and staying on track with the bigger project even harder. I have high goals set, but this year is different because I am also praying about them. No matter what, God will take me where He wants me if I continue to be obedient.
While spending some quiet time with the Lord yesterday, I felt Him speak a verse onto my heart:
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)
I loved this verse as a start to this new year, but it’s also a reminder to myself. In 2014, when I fully surrendered my life to Christ, I started this new journey. My new life has begun! It’s time to finally focus on the things I believe God is encouraging me to do. This will be my first full year (unless God really surprises us!) in Ohio. I have far fewer distractions here than I had in West Virginia, and I am dedicating my time to God. I will read Scripture, work through Bible studies, write, and really listen for the direction God wants me to take.
My challenge to you, friend, is to consider doing the same. Consider really focusing on God this year. Perhaps you are much further along than me on this beautiful journey. If so, I just encourage you to keep on walking forward! Perhaps you aren’t feeling as fulfilled as you want. Perhaps your time with God has become another check mark on a to-do list, or maybe you have even found yourself wandering away from God and toward this world. It’s such a wonderful TRUTH that no matter how far we stray, or how many times we stumble and fall, God will remain constant. He will always be with us.
It’s going to be a great year! Join me, and let’s encourage one another in our faith as we walk with our Savior.
