So I blinked, and it was nearly the middle of May. May is always a busy month, especially for moms with school-aged children. Teacher appreciation, end-of-year parties, field trips, musicals/plays, sports, and all the other activities that come finishing up the school year (finally!). The weather is finally warming up – at least, that’s my hope where you are because here it still feels like very early spring – and we start spending more and more time outside.
For me, this also means something has to give. Unfortunately, all to often one of the things I tend to neglect in the busy season is my time with God. Spending time in His Word or spending time in prayer become just another thing to do, rather than the one thing I need to do.
Maybe you can relate?
This past weekend was quite crazy. I took my Bible and my notebook, with every intention of keeping up with my routine, but then . . . I didn’t. In fact, I have been very scattered with my time in God’s Word lately. Most seasons, this is due to overactivity. This particular season, it lies more with the fog of grief that covers me. Last night, as I prayed through my prayer list, I recommitted myself to prioritizing God. This morning, I started my day surrendering to God’s will.
One of my favorite characteristics about God is His unwavering love for us. No matter how many times we push Him down further and further on To-Do list, He never replaces us from the #1 spot. Lamentations 3:22-23 confirms this: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Every day is a brand new day. A day we can start over and reprioritize our busy lives. Replace Him as the King of our day. Recommit to spending time – quality time – in His Word. His steadfast love never ceases. How’s that for some Monday encouragement?
It’s a new day! Embrace God’s love and mercy, and turn your eyes to Him in this busy season.
